Finally watched this movie so that I could get some background before watching The Avengers. It had a great intro, showing the great gods of Asgard and the story behind Thor’s banishment. What I didn’t like was the story on Earth. The film did a poor job in putting the two worlds together and this led to awkward and cheesy moments of Thor roaming around a small desert town. Also, he was supposed to redeem himself before he could regain the power of the hammer…yet he did absolutely nothing. I guess you could say he changed the way he thought about keeping his friends safe in battle, but that was about the only thing.

So overall, the parts of the movie that took place outside of Earth were good, and the parts that took place on Earth were utter trash. Outside of Earth, the story was good, the characters powerful, the fight scenes awesome, and the setting beautiful. On Earth however, the story is pointless, the characters cheesy, the and the desert town setting terrible. The fight scene where Thor infiltrates the base was cool, but the scene where they fight the Destroyer machine was uninspiring and weak. How can 5 or 6 of the greatest warriors of Asgard be defeated by one of their own machines that just slowly shoots big laser beams? I want to split the review – 5/5 for the story in Asgard, 1/5 for the story on Earth.

Overall a 2/5
