I don’t know why they made another Spiderman so recently after the trilogy ended in 2007. I believe they did it just so they could put him in the next Avengers movie if it comes. Whatever the reason, I didn’t like this one. I feel Andrew Garfield doesn’t fit the role for Peter Parker. The simplest way to put it is that he’s just too cool. The character of Peter Parker has gone through several phases throughout its career- from shy high school nerd to outgoing college student, and I think I like the photographer one the best. In this movie however, he’s a skateboarding hipster. Spiderman has always been my favorite superhero because of his backstory and growth to becoming Spiderman (as well as his webslinging), but this guy is just too cool and everything comes to him too easily. This is partly due to the underdevelopment of the whole story. The scenes happen without much emotional significance. Peter Parker sparks into becoming Spiderman after the death of his uncle, but in this movie after the uncle dies, Spiderman forgets about him after a few scenes until the very, very, very end. The ending however, leads to a very obvious sequel. The antagonist Dr. Curt Conners is very good. He turns into the evil Lizard in a failed experiment to replace limbs and he shows how good ideas put to the extreme can turn out to be bad. I didn’t care about the girl at all.

The production quality is very good, the fight scenes are good, basically everything is good except the story is just way too undeveloped. It feels like it was just hashed out so that they could put Spiderman in the next Avengers, a feeling I also got from Thor.
