Based on Stephen King’s novella, this movie is a CLASSIC and a MUST-WATCH. Andy Dufresne, a timid banker, is sent to jail for life for the murder of his wife and her secret lover. There he befriends Red, the man who can get anything, and must live through the torture of the prison system. Though he begins with a rough start, he finds his way and eventually becomes respected among the inmates and the prison staff. Then begs the question – will he become institutionalized and unable to function in society if he ever gets out?

First of all, this movie is narrated by Red (Morgan Freeman).  Rating: 5/5

But I still have to explain the rest. The movie plays out over 20 years and through this time, you’ll witness all the horrors of prison – butt rapes, beatings, corruption, nasty food, etc. Even in such a hopeless place, Andy finds ways to make prison life much more livable, and he works diligently to make it so. However, the warden and the entirety of the prison system seems to work against Andy, and this whole plot builds up to one of the most satisfying endings in movie history. What you’ll get is a look into the meaning of freedom and the importance of hope, and this movie will surely make you feel happy you’re not in jail.
