Multivariable Calculus
My professor looked like a caveman. With long terrible hair and a crazy beard, one could easily mistake him for a homeless man. He wore only four different shirts, all dirty and smeared with chalk. His sandals with barf green socks were an interesting combination. He had to be a genius. Too bad he couldn’t teach. Literally every lecture I went to (except the first one about coordinate planes), I understood nearly nothing. He taught only proofs, in notation I did not understand and with ideas I did not understand. The homework was all computational so I spent a lot of time myself figuring out how to do the problems. Then came test time and he would ask to prove Kepler’s Laws. Yeah. He was a pretty nice guy though. Grading curve was extremely generous. He said and did a lot of weird and funny stuff in class – picked up chairs and tables to show planes and vectors, spun around a dowel rod to demonstrate a surface, jumped in circles to show motion around an axis, mentioned some far off application of the thing he was teaching. One time, he said he forgot to bring a machete to show the slicing of a solid…I don’t know if he was kidding or not. I liked his personality. When he made a grammar mistake, he explained to the class the proper way to execute his statement…and when he mentioned a topic that would appear on the midterm, a student asked him what else would show up – response: “Other questions.” He seemed to see things pretty trivially, almost apathetically, but in a funny way. Overall, I think it was a pretty interesting experience. Only in college will you have this sort of thing happen – a crazy genius professor. But he was a terrible teacher and I barely passed the class so……. :[

Intro to Sociology
This class was super interesting. Similar to psychology, but the study of sociology is how society acts on an individual and how their behaviors are formed in this way. It could be wealth, race, culture, mental status, imprisonment, gender, sexuality, etc. The professor was nice and made the class fun and interesting. Later on he became pretty preachy about the topics though. Can’t really think of anything else to say, but this was definitely a good class to take! LOTS of interesting topics to go over!

Arts and Architecture
Nope, this class had nothing to do with architecture. This was pretty much a performing arts appreciation class (even though the professor said it wasn’t). And the professor would also tell us about how it’s unfair to think that athletes are dumb (and then hold a special review session just for athletes). Though this class was interesting and cool, I found it to be a huge waste of time. The lectures were two hours long. THAT’S TWO HOURS TOO LONG. I often slept through half of the lecture and skipped a couple too. Every so often he would bring in a special guest. I saw the Electric 8, Stu and Heidi, Antwone Fisher, Wu Man, and many other famous artists. Then we had to attend performances at UCLA Live, which were pretty cool…I saw Kenny Burrell’s Birthday celebration with B.B King guest starring and Stevie Wonder’s surprise visit! Then there was Hofesh Shechter’s Political Mother (weird modern dance), Wu Man (traditional Chinese pipa performance), and Water is Rising (native Pacific Islanders performing their tribal dances). I picked these performances myself, but I didn’t like how we had to buy the tickets ourselves. So yeah, cool and very easy class, but a huge waste of time. I would rather have not taken it.
