If you’ve never heard of Les Misérables, you should renounce your citizenship from society now and get a head start in living alone forever. It is one of the most famous musicals ever, and this movie adaptation does not disappoint.

First, the music was wonderful. THE WHOLE MOVIE IS SINGING. Each actor sings live in the scenes and the orchestrated background seems to go on nonstop throughout the whole movie. I don’t know how fans of the original musical would take in the performances, but I certainly enjoyed it all the way through.

The story is told well in this way, and each actor is flawless (but hardcore fans of the musical may disagree). Each character really shines in this movie and lots of well-known actors will appear. Even the original actor who plays Jean Valjean from the musical plays the bishop in this film. The story is very moving and several times I ALMOST cried (my friend said he had to hold back his tears so he wouldn’t blur his vision). The only complaints that I have are that some conversational scenes are a bit awkward (because they sing almost absolutely everything), and the transitions from scene to scene are very abrupt so those who are unfamiliar with the story might have a hard time following. It’s not really easy to pick up what their lyrics are saying either. Also, Inspector Javert’s death was a bit more gruesome than it had to be. But those are just trifles – it’s a must-watch.
