This is an old movie but I still found its humor and charm to be funny and relatable. Two men decide to live together – Felix the just-divorced suicidal neat freak, and Oscar the long-time divorced sleazy slob. Afraid for Felix’s safety from himself and his clumsy suicidal attempts, Oscar reluctantly allows Felix to live in his filthy apartment. Soon, the two find that they are complete opposites and are entirely incompatible. Felix’s incessant cleaning and nitpicking get in the way of Oscar’s desire to have fun and live his carefree life, and vice versa. Both characters drive each other insane and what begins as a hilarious conflict between two crazy guys turns into an emotional battle between two best friends.

A classic, this movie encapsulates so much goodness in every scene. It plays very much like a sitcom and while I was watching it, I kept hoping for more and more. Unsurprisingly, after the release and success of this movie, a tv series for it came out. A familiar story for anyone who’s had roommate troubles, this is a great and refreshing film.

Rating: 5/5

I heard the sequel was a flop, but I’ll watch it anyway.
